The blog author would come to different conclusions if he looked beyond the rhetoric of people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. sought a color-blind society. President Bush might not favor affirmative action, but he hires and appoints African Americans (e.g., Secretary Condelezza Rice and Justice Thomas) when they are the best people for the job."

*Sigh* This hardly seems worth it because this respondent clearly didn't read the post (and almost certainly won't be returning to it) but I can't let this type of mindless drivel slide.

a) Jesse Lee's comments aren't "thoughtful" by any stretch of the imagination. He recently compared the Middle Passage to an uncomfortable plane ride. This requires about as much thoughtfulness as digesting one's food.
b) I've never relied on anyone's rhetoric. This is especially true of Jesse and Slick Al - of whom I've been consistently critical.
c) I find it interesting that those who couldn't be bothered to support MLK's cause when he was living lean on his dream now that he's gone. Further, MLK was not an advocate of the kind of feigned colorblindness that foolish whites seem to be in favor of. At any rate, Martin Luther King was not a boot-licking Uncle Tom and should not be mentioned in the same sentence as the subject of this post.
d) Clarence Thomas' well documented judiciary disappearing act since being appointed to the Supreme Court should put to rest all arguments that he was the best person for the job. Condi is allowed to function in her current role only to the degree that she supports the bigoted, immoral and draconian policies of her buffoonish benefactor. But, sure, I guess she's qualified to do that.Another Conflict Theoristhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03611335993936210835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20488696.post-30442430324230641602008-05-26T15:27:00.000-05:002008-05-26T15:27:00.000-05:00I admire Reverend Peterson for his thoughtful comm...I admire Reverend Peterson for his thoughtful comments through public venues. At any rate,JLP is a buffoon,he is certainly no leader, and his comments are idiotic and repulsive. I seriously question his self-esteem and sanity, and that of anyone who agrees with him. The comments he makes about Afrikans residing in America is equivalent to blaming a gazelle for being eaten by a lion,or better yet,a gazelle tipping off a pride of lions where the rest of the gazelles are grazing. He's a self-hating Judas.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20488696.post-33781442733717890572007-10-16T15:18:00.000-05:002007-10-16T15:18:00.000-05:00Man...I LOVED this post. One of my roommates was a self-loathing black republican, and introduced me to Jesse Lee (I won't call him reverend b/c I don't see where he's doing God's work at all) through his book, Scam, and after reading but a few pages, I involuntarily vomited in my own mouth...just a little. The amount of passion with which this man hates black people is incredible. Thanks for this post. It has armed me w/some things that I didn't previously know, but certainly won't forget.BLESSD1https://www.blogger.com/profile/01375754465584219700noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20488696.post-67643588610730991212007-10-12T18:53:00.000-05:002007-10-12T18:53:00.000-05:00"The reverend is so brutally honest. Jesse Lee is truly dedicated to rebuilding the life of the black man."

Apparently, he believes part of the rebuilding process is going on networks like Fox (though, I'm sure, they also love black people and are supportive of black upliftment) and badmouthing black people based on nothing but regrettable stereotypes. Well done, Jesse.Another Conflict Theoristhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03611335993936210835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20488696.post-32491166606760538782007-10-12T18:52:00.000-05:002007-10-12T18:52:00.000-05:00"He is right that the main problem amongst blacks ..."He is right that the main problem amongst blacks is self-sabotage."

No. He isn't. The "main problem amongst blacks" is institutional and social impediments to their progress and, of course, people like you and Jesse.

"He is also right that complaining all the time doesn't accomplish anything."

I wouldn't label the proper identification of race-based economic injustice "complaining" but, then again, I'm not Jesse.

"Israel has as much right to defend herself as anyone else does.."

Not that this has anything to do with your argument but I find it interesting that right-wing dogmatists always refer to a country's government with female descriptors like "she" and "her." At any rate, Israel "defends" herself by summarily dropping bombs on suspected terrorist havens (which, btw, tend to kill plenty of civilians) and committing blatant assassination.

"srael has as much right to defend herself as anyone else does, and she treats her minorities far better than the Arab countries treat theirs."

Which is to say pretty damned poorly.Another Conflict Theoristhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03611335993936210835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20488696.post-63521409503435144912007-07-18T15:02:00.000-05:002007-07-18T15:02:00.000-05:00I would like to say that I like the Reverend Jesse...I would like to say that I like the Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson and he does not deserve the majority of nasty comments that other blacks throw at him. He is right that the main problem amongst blacks is self-sabotage. He is also right that complaining all the time doesn't accomplish anything. By the way, calling Israel "oppressive" reflects your ignorance, bigotry, or both, knowing that you seem to like those words. Israel has as much right to defend herself as anyone else does, and she treats her minorities far better than the Arab countries treat theirs. Since you are so obsessed with racism, I'm surprised you don't cry for the poor minorities in those countries.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20488696.post-31210515771291533702007-04-18T22:04:00.000-05:002007-04-18T22:04:00.000-05:00I think the book Scam is awesome.
